Long time no see
Hey guys, sorry, kind of fell off the Model 8/81 world for awhile. My interest peaked again recently after my Uncle passed away and an offer of some of his guns came about. One that immediately got my attention was a Model 8 in 25 Rem that I tried to buy at least 25 years ago. You have to have known...

Re: Forearm on 81
Nope, forearm screw is good and tight. I finally noticed the small rivet. It moves just the littlest bit, but just enough for the barrel jacket to rotate every so much. Don't know if it's enough trouble to go through to fix. I can live with it. Thanks guys

Forearm on 81
Anyone else have a problem with their forearm rotating a slight bit along with the barrel jacket?

Re: 81 magazine question
Aha, got it. I was able to remove the follower and magazine spring without tearing the rifle down and found out when I had put the magazine back together I had failed to get the top leg of the spring in FRONT of the lip on the underside of the rear of the follower and that is what was hanging when i...

Might have been what happened, washer flipped. Thought about it after I posted but haven't had the time to try it. Thanks for the reassurance.

Re: 81 magazine question
I'm a Remington 870/1100/11-87/700 and Colt M-4/16 LE armorer so I know my way around guns, but I can't for the life of me find a schematic with the correct orientation of the magazine spring. I replaced it the most logical way I could see and it functions fine until it bottoms out in the magazine, ...

Re: Introducing myself
Hi snaps, I too was just finally able to get on the model 8/81 bandwagon recently. I still have relatives living in your neck of the woods, Gattineau, Kirkland Lake and Ottawa. Up until last year I had a cousin (one generation up from me, in his 70's, passed away last year, wife still lives near the...

81 magazine question
Well after tearing my 81 down because the magazine follower would not allow more than 2 rounds in the magazine, I discovered the magazine spring seems to have been installed backwards. Travel appeared to be normal then, but after trying to load 4 rounds in the magazine the follower now hangs up at t...

Hey guys
Mike here. I finally got my dream rifle that I've looked a long time for: a Remington model 81 in 35 Remington (Jan/47). I've always loved the look of the rifle. I found a Remington model 11 a couple of years ago and they look great together. Never was much interested in synthetic stocks. I love the...

Rem 81 barrel nut, how tight?
Until I can get my hands on a copy of the The Great Model 8 and 81, how tight does the barrel nut need to be? I broke down my rifle yesterday with no problems, but my barrel nut did not go back down as far as it did before. I don't think I can get any more clicks out of it, but the barrel protruded ...

Re: Your First Model 81......
Like Paul, my first and only so far is a Jan/47 in 35 Remington. I've spent a long time trying to find one locally and when I wasn't looking it popped up. I traded for it about 4 days ago and can't wait to shoot it.
