Re: Humpback disease
Nice find! Gotta love those humpbacks. I've had my grandfathers Model 11 for a couple of years now and it functions perfectly. I cleaned her up after a complete teardown and the only thing I found wrong was the small fiber washer at the rear of the receiver needed replacing. It was brittle and crack...

I believe it's the Marble's R6. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable could tell you exactly.
It's missing the eye cup and the threads get a little tight about halfway up like it's slightly out of round, but otherwise it works great.

Re: Model 81, 35 REM ammo
You can't go wrong with the Remington CoreLokt 200 grainers. That cartridge was designed for the Model 8 -81 action and will feed all day long. I've used LeveRevolution ammo and didn't really see the need for it. It also had some trouble feeding. Same with Federal's 35 Rem loads. Those are just slig...

With the gun assembled and the bolt closed, press on the crown. It may take a little force, but not too much. Does the barrel move back into the jacket?
Does the barrel cycle back when it is fired?

Hmmm, looking at their site I only see 35 Whelan listed.
I have tried their LEVERevolution ammo in mine though. Shot alright but I had some feeding problems. I guess my old girl like the round nose.

Thanks for the link Hardrada55. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Still, I find it kind of funny that the makers of hunting rifles and ammo also makes hair dryers. "That's a nice buck Bob" "Thanks. He got a little wet dragging him back to camp, so once I got him home I pu...

Re: Removing the 81 buttstock
If you do remove the stock, then yes it is only the one rear screw. I left my stock attached to the gun. I used blue painters tape to mask off the metal so it wouldn't get scratched. I also taped the edges of the buttplate. Doing this insures you don't round off the edges of the wood while sanding. ...

Has anyone noticed how many personal grooming products the Remington name is attached too? Walking through a store the other day and I saw cordless shavers, hair curlers, nose hair trimmers etc.
Do they make these or do they license out the name to someone else?

I found a note from my Grandpa. It had his name and address on it from when he lived in N. Idaho (Hope area to be exact). It's discolored from all the linseed oil, but still legible. I put it back in along with a note with my name and DL # and when I TruOiled the stock I wiped the oil far enough to ...

As many others have said, 200 gr Remington Core-Lokts are your best bet. I've tried Federal's Power Shock 200 grainers and every magazine would have one or two that wouldn't feed right. I compared the rounds and found the Federal rounds were slightly shorter than the Remington rounds. Not a lot, abo...

Got the sight yesterday, will clean and scrub today. Where do I find the blue thread locker? :?: You can find it anywhere that sells automotive supplies. Wal Mart carries it, heck, I think I've even seen it at Target before. It's made by Loctite. If you don't see it in the automotive area, check in...

Re: Aperature sight
Once you get the sight, I recommend using some blue thread locker on the screw threads when you mount it. The sight on mine would work loose after a range session of fifty rounds or so. I didn't want to loose it, so I put a small amount of blue thread locker on it and haven't had a problem since.

There should be a screw about halfway down the forend. Unscrew it and the forend slides off, exposing the take down screw.
The one on mine looks like a sling mount, but it isn't.

Hey Gramps, Can you tell me more about the "True Oil" you referenced in your post? jack1653 Tru-Oil is a stock finish made by Birchwood Casey. It's a mix of linseed oil and some other oils. It seals the wood real well and brings out the grain. http://www.birchwoodcasey.com/sport/wood_inde...

I don't know how I missed this the dozen or so times I've been here. I gotta say, I'm jealous. I have one each of the Model 8 in .35 Rem and a Model 11. Both were my grandfathers and both still work perfectly to this day.

My son and I went to the range yesterday before the Super Bowl. Every time someone came into the rifle area they had to ask about my Model 8. "What is that?" "How old is it?" "Does it shoot alright?" I spent just as much time showing it off as I did shooting it. I even ...

Re: Disassembly of the barrel on a Model 8
Well I figured it out. All I did was wrap some duct tape around the jaws of some regular old pliers and cranked on the barrel nut. Once it started clicking I knew I had it loosened. I was expecting the barrel to shoot across the room, but it didn't. Anyhow, I took it apart and cleaned the outside of...

Disassembly of the barrel on a Model 8
I'm wondering just how involved disassembling the barrel is? I know it needs a special spanner wrench, other than that is there anything I need to know. Will the barrel fly out due to the spring pressure? I have the owners manual, so I know what parts go where on reassembly, other than that is it to...

Re: Sling question.
I picked up a couple of 'shotgun slings' for my Model 8 and Model 11 12 gauge. They slip on so you don't have to drill holes for swivels or anything like that. They work pretty well. My only complaint, a very minor one, is that the rear loop rides on the stock where you grip it. It feels a little we...

Finally got to shoot the old girl!
Hey everyone, long time to post. So I took my son and the rifle to the range a couple of weeks back. Since he never shot a rifle before, I got him started on a old Marlin Model 60 22LR I picked up at a pawn shop. I let him put a hundred rounds or so through that so he could get his breathing and con...
