Re: New to me Webely
Very nice! I have the same pistol but mine has the .455/.476 cylinder. I've never tried the .476 loading but the .455's aren't quite big enough to get a good bite on the rifling. Recovered slugs will almost fall through the bore.

Re: shooting damn near MOA w/ .300 Savage
My 81's favorite load is 40 grains of IMR 4064 pushing 150 grain Hornady boat tail interlocks. It's not a very fast load but it regulates perfectly on the rear sight steps. It'll hammer the 10" gong at 400 every time if I do my part. Mine jams quite a bit. Never thought about trying different b...

Re: When I'm not tinkering on guns.....
I grew up in green country but my cousins in the cotton fields a few miles south of me are die hard Farmall guys. They use a couple H's, a Super M, and a Case (not sure which model) on their ranch and in local tractor pulls and they do very well with them. I texted them a video of my tractor and the...

When I'm not tinkering on guns.....
I just started working on a 1948 model A John Deere. Last year my Dad inherited the open ground of the family farm (uncles and Aunts got the barns and houses) and in our opinions, farming with a modern tractor just isn't much fun so I bought the model A to go along with his model MT. His tractor is ...

Re: Remington Model 8 Butt Stock Reproductions
Wow, that is beautiful work! It is clear to me that anyone who can make stocks as nice as yours would know enough to tell a crooked stock when he sees one. Once the winter weather drives me into the garage to work on my gun projects I would definitley like to get a schnabel tipped fore arm and a rou...

Re: Remington Model 8 Butt Stock Reproductions
Remcrazy, I had the exact same dispute with them over a crookedly inleted stock for an old shotgun. I told them it was crooked and I might be able to straighten them out but if it didn't work I'd be up a creek because they would then be considered "ruined by the customer", so I just wanted...

.300 loads for the 81
I was just wondering if any of you reload ammo for your model 8s and 81s. I originally thought my 150 grain load (40 gr. IMR-4064) for my .300 savage was to light to properly work the action of my 81 because the ejector plunger seems like it still has alot of pressure and the extractor looks like ne...

Barrel mounted sling swivel
I'm looking for the sling swivel stud that goes into the hole under the barrel of my 81. Anybody know where I can find one?

Re: Another 81 owner
Thanks guys. Glad to see that I'm not the only one who loves these old autoloaders. My hunting buddys call my 81 "the pom pom gun" because of the way the barrel moves back and forth in the barrel housing.

Re: A pic and question about my 81
Thanks. I think I will try to make the stock a bit more normal looking by adding a pad. It'll make that rifle a bit more pleasant to shoot to. She bucks pretty good.

Re: Model 8, a nice firearm.
A couple weeks back I watched a movie staring Wes Studi called "the Only Good Indian" and he had a beautiful high grade model 8 with a long eye relief scope mounted out on the barrel like a scout rifle. Those holes in your barrel jacket and the two holes used to secure the rear sight could...

A pic and question about my 81
When I was old enough to start deer hunting I was looking for a suitable rifle when a family friend told me about a Browning autoloader in .300 mag that he knew about and that he could probably get it for me for $200. I jumped at the deal but when I saw the gun he was talking about it turned out to ...

Hello folks. My name is Matt and I'm from a tiny town in central Ca. called Hilmar. I grew up on my familys farm in Crowslanding Ca. and have been hunting and shooting since I was big enough to heft a Daisy. I go by clampdaddy because I am a proud member of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clamp...
