Remington bolt will not work without other modifications .The guide pad on the bolt that trips the mechanism is in a different location.

Number 1045 has the diamond shaped around the hanger screw. Maybe the change was around serial one thousand to this pattern.

Is this factory pattern not recognized early FNs. The checkering is right up to the hanger screw. I have seen three this way on three digit serial numbers rifles. I am certain they are factory original.

Someone got a very nice FN reasonable. Stock looks to be uncut and a little elbow grease it will shine. Just add a period correct scope and you’re done. Anybody here end up with it?

Re: Bolt carrier binding when it travels back

I recently had this problem and found the bolt handle was rubbing on the receiver. Remove bolt handle and cycle the action with a screwdriver or dowel ( take care as you don’t want to scratch the receiver). If the bolt moves freely this is likely the cause. My rifle would work when cycled by hand bu...

Re: Tangs screws

This is the screw that holds the hammer spring and trigger spring. It is under a lot of torque when factory installed and will not come out easily. It doesn’t need to be removed for dissembling the rifle. Most attempts end up ruining the slot and this may be the previous owners way of making it look...

Re: Rear sight - marked or not?

The Great Remington 8 book by John Henwood suggests all 4,913 FNs may have been made prior to the outbreak of World War 1 in 1914. The book also reads the Model 1900 was dropped from FN catalogs in 1929. That’s about as close as you can get for manufacturing dates.

The barrel jacket is one of the few parts on an FN that have no markings or inspection stamps. This is likely original to the receiver as condition appears to match . FN and Remington sights may be swapped on round barrel models with no alterations to the gun. Very nice FN you have in you collection.

I would think the bolt needs to be checked for cracks before firing. This is significant problem and for safety's sake should not be used. Replace the bolt and have this one looked at . This one is 30 rem and was already drilled for the scope. At first glance it looks like an 81 but it’s not. Someone has installed an 81 stock on this 8 and did it well. The only down side is the bottom tang is too long but it works .
