Re: Model 14 friends out there?
I’ve got 3 141’s and a 14. Excellent shooters. I use Hornady or Speer .321” bullets and have good luck with them in my 141 and 81 in 32 Rem. Stay far away from the Hornady FTX in the 14’s and 141’s. They jam in the mag tube. I do trim the 32 Rem cases slightly shorter than spec to keep the cartridg...

Hey guys. Working on my Frankenrifle and I have a nice single-spring magazine, but no single-spring magazine trigger guard/trigger plate to match. If anyone's got one, let me know. I did see a few on the various auction sites, as well as Jack First, but I thought I'd check here before then. Thanks g...

Hey guys. I've had this unmarked early Model 8 barrel chambered in .32 Rem laying around intended for a project for years. I believe I got this from Carl or Roger years ago, may have been part of a long-forgotten trade, I just can't recall. Anyway according to what I've read in the Henwood book the ...

Re: Question on recoil spring/buffer spring sizes
Coil thickness & cross section is way too big for 25R, perhaps some spring set in the right one. Way to define if they are alike: count coil wraps, measure cross section h x w. I do note they are slightly different in the corners of the coil wire. That could be the difference of when they were ...

Thanks, Phyrbird. I have an old buffer that came with the Frankenrifle I got some years ago from Roger, which has a 35 Rem barrel and bolt, that is shorter than the two buffers from my later 81's in .300 Savage. Kind of makes me wonder if that old buffer in the Franken-8 is for a 25? Of course, pict...

Re: Question on recoil spring/buffer spring sizes
Ok, I went back into the Henwood text to see if the differences in recoil springs and buffers was mentioned. Yes, it was! According to Henwood, there were two sizes of buffer/recoil springs. One covered the 35 REM and then also the later addition 300 Savage, the other was the 25/30/32 family. Unfort...

I'm following this thread, now. My question is about the difference in stock springs in terms of length. It seems that two of my later 81 rifles in .300 Savage had springs that measured approx 10-3/8". One spring that I think came with my Model 8 in .35 Rem was more like 11-1/2". Does anyo...

Thank you for answering my question. Yes, what they call "magazine indicator" in the schematics does act as a bolt hold-open, so I also thought it was not strictly necessary for function.

Another interesting observation is the "tidiness" of how these stamps were applied. If you look at the earliest of guns, like 1906 guns, the stamps were applied symmetrically, stamped deeply and even, and organized in a way very pleasing to the eye. Compare those with later Model 8 guns, ...
