Re: Army Trials rifle
Thanks for the info. I was curious that a seemingly reliable semi auto, that could be fed with stripper clips would have been overlooked for consideration. A bit ahead of it's time perhaps as the tactics of the day with bolt action rifles didn't change for another 30-40 years in most countries.

Army Trials rifle
On the webpage there are photos of an Army trials rifle but no description or explanation. It doesn't say if it is an 8 or 81 but with the straight stock I assume it was an 8. I am now curious as to the circumstances of this rifle. Again assuming it was an 8 I have to assume it was intended for WWI....

Re: Our Ladies still in the News: Rifle Magazine Jan 15
Is the caption correct in that article that it held 5 rounds? Didn't the .35 only hold 4 rounds in the mag? Unless he is talking about loading one in the chamber then loading the mag.

Re: New member, just bought an 81.

Re: Joined the 81 club
Update: I managed to pick up 3 boxes of ammo and 110 brass in a trade for 4 boxes of 9mm. Good deal for me since I bought that 9mm stuff back when it was cheap. Vintage stuff but should be ok. Because of the condition of the actually boxes 40+ rounds are in the plastic case, one of the boxes of Winc...

I agree about the checkering.jack1653 wrote:Hey mac66,
There is nothing wrong with those pictures. After viewing them I would strongly suggest you purse the idea of getting the forearm re-traced. I think you will be more than satisfied with the results.

Re: Joined the 81 club
Would sort of like to see what it looked like before it was sanded down. Bet it was real pretty.

Re: Joined the 81 club
As long as I am posting pics I may as well document some more of the checkering here. I didn't think it was factory and of course now it will drive me crazy. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v489/mac66/Remington%2081/IMG_0791_zpsfda390de.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v489/mac66/Remington%20...

Re: Joined the 81 club
Thanks, I am pretty sure the stock was sanded to be refinished which accounts for the checkering being worn and damaged. Kind of a shame because the front fore stock is pretty elaborate. Does anyone know if the factory did checkering on the standard model, perhaps by request? Redoing the checkering ...

Picked this 81 up today. My first one. It is a 1947 standard in 300 Savage. It has kind of unique checkered stocks though the stocks have been refinished, thus the worn looking checkering. Also a Redfield rear peep sight and Bucheimer #0243 leather sling. Metal is pristine with barely a spot on it w...
