They're rivets that hold a piece of metal in place on the inside of the receiver. That piece of metal depresses a lever in the bolt carrier that allows the bolt to rotate at the appropriate time as part of the "autoloading" operation.

The FP retention pin hole is about 45˚ off level through the bolt carrier. In mine I drove it out from the bottom right, out the top-left. It only goes one way. If you tap on it the wrong way then it will bind the firing pin.

If you tap on it, and the FP tightens up, then go to the other side.

As he's no longer with us, I missed my opportunity to purchase GRUMPA's .35 Remington brass. He was as asset to the unpopular/obsolete cartridge shooting community.

But I don't have any personal experience with scout scopes and would need some rough dimensions for overall length, and where you'd want the rail in relation to the barrel yoke/jacket head (or other reference point). You can try to separate cases by brand so that "Remington" headstamp stays with the M81 and "Winchester" headstamp stays with the Marlin, etc.

Also, at least in my case, the M81 firing pin is huge compared to my other rifles, so fired primers are obvious what came from what.

It looks like the washer under the takedown screw is a lock-washer too. That might be contributing to why it's reluctant to loosen. Oil, heat and maybe some channel-lock pliers with some substitute brass jaws for extra torque without marring the finish.

If it looks pretty clean, and has lubrication in the bolt lug abutments and bolt cam pins, then go shoot it. If it cycles fine, then perhaps it doesn't need any TLC. Otherwise, with the right tools it should come apart fine. If you were paying attention you shouldn't have trouble with reassembly IMO.

First I'd check that the ejector plunger moves freely and has sufficient pressure to kick the case up and out of the way once the case clears the breech.
