Thanks for the replies. Even with being careful, I can see myself doing something that could damage or impair the receiver in some way so I'll follow the sound advice of just cleaning the fact of the bolt and giving everything else a good cleaning.

I'm a new Model 8 owner and am trying to inform myself on how best to maintain this rifle. I have the old girl a good cleaning, but stopped short of taking the butt stock off to totally break the rifle down as it's a bit involved and I didn't want to mess anything up. Yes, I bought it at The Trading Post. Every once in a while they get an older rifle that peaks my interest and this rifle was one of them. I have my C&R license so I usually buy the older stuff online, but it pays to look at the local stores, too.
