Re: Caliber Conversion
That's good to know about the extractor. Thanks for the tip! Does anyone have a link to one of these that has been converted into .308? I would like to read more about that.

Re: Caliber Conversion
What about a handgun round? Anyone know of one that might work?
Since the 81 I mentioned before is clearly a Franken-Gun, I wouldn't be opposed to a little experimentation -instert mad scientist laugh here-

Re: Caliber Conversion
Very interesting about the bolt head size on the 300 Savage. I own an 81 in 300 savage that's currently sporting a 35 Rem bolt head  . Shoots just fine though haha. I'll have to do some measuring on that. The main reason I bring this up is that I would really like to shoot my Model 8 more but...

Caliber Conversion
Hello all! Has anyone ever done or seen a caliber conversion done on a 8 or 81? The rim diameter is .460" which is conceivably modifiably close to the 30-06 rim of .473". If possible to shave off that extra .013", that opens the bolt face up to a huge range of different calibers. Thou...

Re: The "holiest" model 81
How do you guys fill the holes? My thought for these holy relics was to weld and then cerakote but that's just cause I want to pick up dead rifle and put a new life in it, is there a way to weld and then blue it without seeing where the holes were? Charlie, If you follow the link to the other threa...

Re: Welded Model 8 from Gunbroker
Got her all put together yesterday afternoon! I'll be trying to find some place to shoot it this coming weekend, maybe. Need to find a little more ammo too if I can.
The concensus is no Hornady ammo, correct?

Re: Welded Model 8 from Gunbroker
Well, here it is! Perfect? Nope. Close enough? Dern straight. As you can see in the unfinished picture, there are a couple low spots but they match the rest of the gun so I can definitely live with that. The finish is just some cold blue I bought at an auction once. Lord knows how old it is but it w...

Re: Welded Model 8 from Gunbroker
I'm definitely on the road to getting rid of that title! My work friend called yesterday at about 6 to tell me he got it all welded up. I'll get another picture of that posted on Monday and I'll probably clean it up Monday too. Question: Would this 1932 model 8 have a place for a firing pin spring A...

Re: Welded Model 8 from Gunbroker
Just a quick shot with the threaded pins in place and ground down. They're about 1/16" proud of the surface. My previously mentioned work buddy is hopefully going to weld it up tonight. Maybe Monday night. We shall see (it's hard to rush someone that works for Subway and about 150 round of .22L...

Re: Welded Model 8 from Gunbroker
That would 11, good sir. I tapped 9 of them last night for 10-32 plugs. Two for 1/4"-28. My guess is, most of these holes were holding 8-32 screws that wallered out. Instead of drilling the mount and the gun for 10-32, they just moved the mount and drilled new 8-32 holes. Wash, rinse, and repea...

Re: Welded Model 8 from Gunbroker
Well it just gets worse. I got it all taken apart for a good scrub down and there's no firing pin. It's just plain gone. Everything else is in place. It's like someone took it apart, took out the firing pin, and put it back together. Numrich to the rescue! Should be here early next week.

Welded Model 8 from Gunbroker
Hello, Folks! This is in regards to the $299 Model 8 from Gunbroker. There was a thread on it it the For Sale forum. Anyway, I picked it up yesterday afternoon. After some careful Dremel-ing, I found Swiss cheese. Overall, I'm pretty happy. There's a few pin-prick pits here and there but the barrel ...

Re: Rem 8 35Rem GB $299!
Well, here's the breakdown: Friday 8/22 - Visit dealer after work to pay 30 dollar transfer fee and get the paperwork going. Saturday 8/23 - Call to check status only to be told, in a sassy tone, "We'll get to it when we get to it." (Seriously.) Sunday and Monday - Store closed. Tuesday 8/...

Re: Rem 8 35Rem GB $299!
I wish! I recently moved to the area I am now after leaving my hometown. Back home, everyone at the gunstore knew me by name (and taste in firearms ;) ). Here, the gunstore staff is uneducated on most everything firearm related and very rude. So, let's just say I have been very unimpressed with the ...
