Re: Model 8 peep sight issue
I scored a Redfield 102 for a model 8 today on eBay. When I get home from the slope I'll put it on and put the Lyman up for sale.

Re: Model 8 peep sight issue
I checked all that. The gun groups exceptionally well just way to the right. with the current rear sight. I'll keep looking for a replacement.

Re: Model 8 peep sight issue
I've thought about replacing the original rear sight but my 58 year old eyes much prefer the receiver sight closer to the eye. I don't seem to shoot as well with the buckhorn rear sight on the barrel.

Re: Model 8 peep sight issue
If I could find one of those Redfield sights for a model 8 I'd be all over it. I've looked for two years for one. I will not be drilling and tapping this rifle for a Williams side mount receiver sight. It doesn't have any holes in the receiver other than the one for the Lyman and I'd like to keep it...

Model 8 peep sight issue
I have a Model 8 in 25 Remington with the Lyman 1 A AT receiver sight. The issue I have is it is no windage adjustable and to get zeroed requires me to drift the front sight nearly out of its slot. Any thoughts on how to manipulate the rear sight to bring the rifle to zero. I've tried shims but it t...

Re: model 8 and me
I don't have a picture of me with my model 8 but here's one of it by itself. Just as well. I'm kind of a homely cuss. It has a short stock, and am told by the previous owner it was from the factory that way. It is chambered for the mighty 25 Remington. https://photos.smugmug.com/Classic-guns/i-gd8jv...

Re: .357 lever action AND bolt actions - what say ye?
I have a Rossi in 45 Colt and really like it. They are a solid little gun. Marbles makes a nice windage adjustable tang sight for them. I bought one but haven't installed it yet. You will love the 35 Whelen. I could hunt the rest on my life with nothing else for big game. Whoa! That thought just mad...

Re: Nice 6x6 Elk taken with a Remington Model 81 in 35 REM.
Great story. My dad is 85 and never really was a hunter. He liked to shoot and knew guns well enough to discuss them but as a dairy farmer with 5 kids he just never had the time or took the time to hunt. He never discouraged my interest though. Great rifles all. The elk is spectacular and the rifle ...

WTB buttstock and buttplate.
I have a model 8 that appears to have a factory short buttstock. The LOP is 12", a bit short for me. I am looking for a buttstock and curved buttplate with the standard LOP. Thanks.

My first Model 8
I picked up this model 8 recently and scored on finding the 25 Remington as my first model 8. It has what the owner believed was a factory short stock. The LOP is only 12.5 inches. It's a little short but I manage. I am looking for a standard sized buttstock for it but am planning to caribou hunt wi...

I got them for $25 each. I guess that's not so bad. Still seems like a lot for those little slivers of metal.

Re: MUST STOP! Been on a buying binge.
Definitely a dangerous place. I just bought a model 8 in 25, a set of Hornady 25 Remington dies, three stripper clips and Henwood's book. I also plundered my 30 Remington brass stash to make 100 rounds of 25 Remington brass.

Re: Found some stripper clips.
I've been watching for them frequently. They don't show up very often and when they do they aren't cheap. I probably paid too much for these but I thought they would be a nice accessory to the 25 and I like them if for nothing else than keeping the rounds together in your pocket or day pack. These t...

Found some stripper clips.
Found some stripper clips to go with my newly acquired Model 8 25 Remington. I'll post some pics of the rifle when I get home from the slope. I probably paid way too much for the clips but no one ever accused me of having good sense when it comes to old guns.

Welcome. I just joined here myself. You come from model 8 country. I grew up on the northern edge of the Adirondacks, St Lawrence county. Used to see lots of model 8's when I was a kid. My first one, a 25 Remington, just arrived at my favorite gunshop. I'm on the north slope right now for two weeks ...

Hello from Alaska
Just joined the site. Great information. I've really enjoyed reading all the great posts. I have my first model 8, a 25 Remington, on the way. Should be here next week. I've always had an affinity for the classic American firearms, especially the model 8 Remington and the 1910 Winchester. I picked u...
