Re: weekend haul
Both of these rifles function flawlessly. The 300 savage is a thumper and the .25 rem is a joy to shoot. Which is exactly what I expected from shooting my savage 99's in 300 and 23-35.
Re: PCI AMMO
The PCI ammo worked great in my .25 Auto Loader and my .30 model 14. I was not shooting for accuracy today just shooting steel at 50 yards.
PCI AMMO
I picked up some PCI 30 and 25 Remington from Graf and Son. Does anyone here shoot this ammo much? I've seen some older negative reviews online. Just wondering what y'all thing?

Re: weekend haul
Thanks Cam. I will search to see how it needs to be fixed. I think I'm more proud of the pre-8 in .25 than the 81 in .300. I know what both rounds are capable of dealing with Savage 99's. I have a Savage 1899 SRC in 25-35. It is a very pleasant round to shoot, low recoil and not all that loud. I wil...

Re: weekend haul
So the serial number dates the 81 to 1947. Repair code OSS3 date would be July 1947 and repair XTT3 code would be December 1948. Did Remington keep records of these repairs?

Re: weekend haul
Thanks for the comments. The 81 serial number is in the 32,000's with 2 repair codes OSS3 and XTT3. It is all matching and has a marbles tang peep. The pre-8 serial number is in the 20,000's. The butt is a piece of thick leather. No number on the forearm. The barrel shroud is a wee bit loose. With t...

Here are the two rifles I bought this weekend. No big bargains to brag about just 2 neat rifles. The first one is a 1947 81 in .300 savage with a checkered stock. No B stamp, all serial number matches. I believe it has a repair code stamp. The second one is a 1910 Remington Auto-loading Rifle in .25...

Re: 81C .300 savage QUESTION
Well it was not a C or B. It just a really nice 1946-47 81 in .300sav with nicely done checkering. I'll try to post some pictures today or tomorrow. I saw a Remington auto loading rifle in .25rem that dated to around 1908 in well used condition with the flip up peep sight. It didn't have the crescen...

Re: 81C .300 savage QUESTION
Not yet jack, I'm suppose to go look at it this weekend. I Was just wondering about a 81C in .300. My guess is when I go look at it, it will be a 81 with the checkering added. But who knows, I may get lucky and it will be marked with a "C" or a "B".

Re: 81C .300 savage QUESTION
I thought that maybe if the .300 savage came out in 1940 and they changed the 81C's to 81B's in 1940 there might have been a few .300 savage built in the 81C.

Re: New Member
Let's say I'm hoping it's a C or B 81. It could be just another 81 with checkering added later on. The owner has agreed to sale it to me but I won't know for sure of the grade until she gets home from a trip. The gun shop I deal with bought it from a older gentleman at a gun show and they put it on ...

got lucky
I got lucky the next to the last day of the rifle deer season and scored on this 9pt. We had gotten a ton of pictures of him(mostly at night but quite a few daytime) from the velvet till the day I harvested him. I took him with a 1923 99G .300SAV. http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u455/coondawg007...

Hello all, New member from Arkansas here. I've just started collecting vintage hunting rifles this past year and I have a small collection of savage 99's and was wanting to branch out to a different model and while looking online I ran across this site. I have to say I had forgotten about the Great ...
