Re: Broken Action Spring Tube, ideas for removal ?
I used a triangle file to cut the spring tube longitudinally then 180 degrees away I did the same thing. If youre careful you can do it while only kissing the female threads. Once it is sectioned I used a sharp pick to pry a half up and out. Exceedingly great care must be taken to not damage the fem...

No
Don't anneal with live primers. A primed case slipped into a big batch one time with me. Not fun.

Re: Broken Action Spring Tube, ideas for removal ?
I removed one by carefully cutting through it longitudinally making 2 cuts 180 degrees apart then pulling out the 2 halves. The tube had broken in such a way to proclude an easy out.
The threads were ok.

Re: Split case necks on Grafs .32 Rem hand loads
Same problem. I had 40% of new Graf .32 Remington cases split at neck or shoulder. Annealing solve the problem. New good quality cases should not need annealled. Since I bought the Graf cases I ran into a lifetime supply of Remington rimless cases and don't plan on buying any more Graf.

I found this in one of my Remington books. I couldn't scan it. Sorry for the low quality pic.
I thought it was interesting. Enjoy

Model 8 Rifle Trunk
I've always wanted a custom rifle trunk. To me, very little is as classy as a fitted trunk. My Dad built this one for me. It's a prototype of sorts but a very nice one. It holds a second barrel and has room for ammunition, cleaning tools, sling, turnscrews, and an oil canister (in front of the foren...

Re: sighting issue
The ring sight is called an aperture sight. They allow for much more accurate shooting than open sights. They do this by increasing sight radius and making sight alignment easier. The eye naturally will align an object in the center of a circle because it is brightest there. Because the aperture sig...

Re: What type of rear sight?
They come up for sale. This one is claimed to be original but is a flat top so I don't think it is. It's missing it's elevator but you could use a replacement. Remington would put nearly any sight you wanted on a rifle back then. Your broken one was a No. 95. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NICE-ORIGINAL-R...

Re: Model 8 Fox
I had to choose between .32 and .35 Remington that morning. My .35 has a wonderful trigger so it got the nod. My little Rem Model 25 in .25-20 is the quintessential Fox gun but I have a real soft spot for my old M8 .35. The Speer 180 is a very sturdy bullet so when turned on a furbearer it acts like...

Model 8 Fox
I finally got a Fox. 25 years of hunting and I managed to do it with a Model 8 in .35. Oh, and it was -20 degrees.
20 yards. He has a beautiful pelt. I'm going to get a full mount.

Re: Hello new guy with a Model 81
Welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying that 81. I don't think you will damage the extractor since its not a controlled round feed mechanism. On neither of my M8's is the rim under the extractor prior to bolt lock. At the same time I wouldn't drop one in the chamber and let the bolt slam forward. My .35 h...

I saw it stated as 11/32" somewhere. I'm sure someone with an unmounted M8 sight will chime in.

I think the pictured buttplate is a replacement. Would you agree? The rifle is old enough to be marked 30-30. Don't know serial the yet. It's mine pending better pics.

Yeah, I've tried pliers. I guess I'll have to make a spanner. I'll start soaking it in Kroil. I'm sure it hasn't been taken apart in 110 years!

Here are a couple pics. I can take others if needed. It seems like the retaining pin won't lift enough. I might have to remove the bushing.

Operating handle removal
I got another M8 for Christmas and can't get the operating handle out. I've disassembled my other M8 before but can't get this one to slide out. It's a 1908 rifle. The op handle moves within its dovetail but it seems that I can't pull up the retaing pin far enough for it to slide out. The pin doesn'...

Still in the field at 96 years old
My Model 8 in .35 is one of my favorite rifles.
I killed this doe yesterday.
81 yards
180 Speer at about 2200 fps. The bullet penetrated about 18 inches. Exit wound was 2 inches wide.
