I checked Henwood's book and it is in disagreement with Wikipedia on the year of introduction of the .32 Remington in the Autoloading rifle. On page 17 Henwood states: "During the first year rifles chambered only for the .35 Remington caliber cartridge were produced, with a magazine capacity of...

Hey Hibby, Hope that you had a good holiday. I have serial #7580 in 32 Remington. The serial number is NOT hand engraved on mine. It is my oldest Model 8, I have no other 1907 Model 8s to compare it to, but I think that you are probably right, they did not manufacture a lot of these rifles in 32 Rem...

I think that you are right on in your assessment: An extra coat of finish on the wood, but a beautiful rifle all the same. Maybe the winner of the auction will post something that will speak to the marking on the wood (Serial number and a C or 3).

Re: Help me load for my 35 Remington M81
I have used the aforementioned 19 gr of Alliant 2400 with a 200 gr. cast lead gas checked bullet with very good results in my 8s and 81s in 35 Rem.
A load of 10 gr. of 700X with the same bullet is more accurate in my 336 Marlins, but this load will not cycle the action in my Remington 8/81s.

I agree with you, Cam, it is a cool rifle with a lot going for it, albeit the wood is a bit worn. I actually put my money where my mouth is and bid on it yesterday. Since your rifle already has a peep sight, why not just take it to the range and shoot it with that set up? I bet it will shoot pretty well just as is. Thanks Roger. Your "ramblings" are very insightful. I have thought it interesting that under Iowa law, it would not be legal to shoot a deer during the regular gun season with a 30 Remington, but it would to use a 35 Whelan, or even 50 BMG. It makes no sense to me. 30 or 32 Remington would...

Hello and welcome. I would be most concerned about the ammo if it is old. If it is new ammo, probably not much to worry about in that regard. As far as the rifle itself, if it the bolt locks back, the magazine is functioning, and the barrel is freely sliding in the barrel sleeve, go ahead and shoot ...

Obviously it could be that the extractor needs to be replace. However, is this rifle scoped? If so, the windage adjustment knob can cause the case to end up back in the mag well on top of the magazine. In this case, it actually extracted, but then rebounded back off of the scope to land back in the ...
