The Stith mount for these rifles with a bright clear Lyman Alaskan post & CH scope.
!st I've ever seen but I don't want to drill my 25.
No screws.
$500 shipped.
Just to get your shorts twisted in a knot perhaps ? Seriously, YOU brought up headspace and I refuted you. Swapping barrels involves far more than headspace as I have found out from other members who are informed on the issues. Out of grade school for 60+ years and still having to put up with hall m...
Sorry to disagree, but 8s/81s were mass produce rifles with mass produced tolerances. 100% confident a 30 Rem bolt will work with a 25 Rem barrel or the opposite. The buffer springs are different (some 25s just have a piece of wood, no spring). I had a 25 and used resized 30 cases in it with no issu...
I sell on GB and that ad is a 100% POS. The Boone scopes were a "cure" for the top ejecting rifles. It was Weaver 440 quality (crap). Scoping a top ejector is easy with a scout scope as I have done with my 81 or finding a Stith offset mount for Lyman Alaskan. https://i.imgur.com/RgAKqqx.jp...
Headspace is not adjustable on the 8/81. The bolt face is the same for a 15 and a 30.
But I'm not sure the prize is worth the quest as my 81 30 is not a bad kicker and I doubt the 25 would do anything to improve the mundane accuracy.
Took it off to range and ran some RP 150 gr loads down range.
No great surprises, 5 in 2" @ 50, 4" @ 100.
Once I get around to handloading it, things may get better.
Would love to find some of the stripper clips as it's a pia to load !
NEVER !!!! Use a lead sled on any rig like this. You'll either wreck the stock or the scope will come off. I can't believe a 32 rem in a 9 lb rifle kicks enuf to use a sled. Get a slip on pad and let it recoil. I have a sled for my 20 lb 338 RUM 1000 yard bench gun with a lam stock and brake. That's...
We've all seen the nasty side mounts jobs that both kill value and are rather unhandy. Got to thinking, why not a Scout Scope setup like Redfield used to make for the Winchester 94 ? One thing lead to another. I discovered a EGW rail for the Savage 25 has the same contour as the as the barrel sleeve...
