Re: 8 or 81? Including Pictures
You are conflating the OP and me.
I was asking OP about his, because I k ow some slings dont use swivels, but tie on.
My rifle and OP's are completely different guns, and I say mine is a '28 because my serial is in the 59000 range.

Re: 8 or 81? Including Pictures
The 8 and 81 rifles did not come with sling mounts. Starting in 1920, the barrel shroud had a threaded hole and screw where one can be mounted. The buttstock had no swivel mounting provided, except on the metal buttplates with the bottom tang some owners would replace the buttplate screw in the bot...

Re: 8 or 81? Including Pictures
My Model 8 has a sling swivel mount on the barrel shroud as well, but mine faces parallel to the bore, like a cleaning rod thimble. How does yours face?

Re: Finally got one coming.
Most "assault rifle" laws I know of hinge on the "readily replacible ammunition feeding device"... unless its a Kreiger Conversion, it fails that litmus. I also dont think any Model 8 has a true pistol grip, another almost universal "assault rifle" feature they claim. I...

Re: Stoopid Questions Get Stoopid Answers
It was more of a thought experiment, which, if someone had previous success with BASIC, to me, equipment, I would have considered taking the path. Ive resized 270 Win to 30-06, 30-06 to 7 and 7.92x57, then to 7.62x51, then down to .45ACp, and a handful of other basic resize and trim jobs. Nothing re...

Ive found some sources, too, Bandersnach, I was wondering if it would be possible to use 358 Win or '06 and Mauser range brass, for FAR less.

Re: My first and I hope my last "Frankengun" (in .250-3000 Savage)
That's nowhere near as bad as I feared it might be. That'd be about the only modification I'd want to my 8, I prefer semi pistol grips, especially round head.

When you talk about the 'mod' to fit the 81 trigger housing, what do you mean?

Re: New Hand at the Great 8
I lucked out, I walked into my LGS and, well... heres the Cliff's Notes: 'Hey! Rudy! Lookit this! We just got her in!' I proceed to get squeal like a school girl over a 1928 Model 8, and put it on layaway, the tag price of 650 freedom eagles kinda left me no choice... Damn you, Steve. You know me to...

Stoopid Questions Get Stoopid Answers
I generally fancy myself the kind of guy who comes up with good ideas, occasionally, even though there are no new ideas under the Sun. Brass is hard to find in the wild for our beloved 35's, and I was wondering if anyone had experience converting 358 Win, or any other Mauser or Ought-Six family cart...

New Hand at the Great 8
Greetings, my fellow lovers of old guns! I have recently become the proud caretaker of a Model 8, 59000 series, in 35 Remington. She's in great shape, and has several departures from the traditional design. To include a rear peep, of unknown make, amd a sling swivel stud on the barrel shroud. One of...
