Re: handloads for .300 Savage
Hello all, thank you for all the replies and info. Haven't had a chance to get up to the club range and spend some time sighting in, but am looking forward to seeing what the old girl can do from 100 to 300 yards, (if my older eyeballs will cooperate using iron sights that is...) Using up the old fa...

handloads for .300 Savage
Hello all, figured I would try and stir up some action here as it doesn't seem to draw many views. Anyway, I have an 81 that I have some old factory ammo and some new unfired cases. I added a Marbles rear peep and a Lyman 17A front sight because my older eyes just are not helping get good groups. I ...

Re: picture of stripper clip for model 81
I have a bunch of clips from surplus 30-06 ammo that I wondered if they would work. I guess I will just have to try them.

picture of stripper clip for model 81
Hello all, does anyone have an original and if so could they post a picture please? I looked for one and am wondering if there is anything special about them or can any .30 caliber clip work if you want to clip load the rifle? For a .300 Savage.

Re: receiver sight preference on model 81
Waiting on a Marples, wasn't cheap but has the removeable diopter that the Lyman doesn't. Looking forward to some range time once I install it to see how the old girl does at 100. I also installed a Lyman 17A on the front, may not be historically correct, although the old Lyman catalogs do list one ...

Re: receiver sight preference on model 81
Thanks for the tip about the Redfield, I would rather not drill and tap if I can avoid it. I like the look of the Lyman better anyway, I just think it suits the look of the rifle. I have been looking for a while, the ones on fleabay recently quickly escalated beyond my means. Jim

receiver sight preference on model 81
Hello all, new here, finding it very interesting reading about these old auto loaders. I always was intrigued about the design and looks of the model 81 but only recently came into possession of the one I have. It is in .300 Savage, appears to be a 1940 vintage rifle according to the serial number. ...
