Re: Early Model 8 - Factory Checkering or Bubba?

I agree with your estimate of late 40s or 50s when white line spacers were popular. Easy for us to be judgmental of choices made back then, but adding checkering was often considered a functional upgrade of a rifle that was pretty common at the time. A plastic buttplate was probably considered a mod...

Re: Full-Stocked Match Rifle "prototype"

Thanks for the photos! Very cool, indeed. The purpose of hand guards is protection against a hot barrel, but also to provide a grip when thrusting with a bayonet. I wonder how they would have done a bayonet mount. The hand guard also enables the rifle to be used as a club after you’ve run out of bul...

Hello from Northern Arizona

I’ve been a lurker and a poster, but it’s time I introduced myself. I picked up a 1946 Model 81 a few months ago from an internet auction that I follow. It was a bit of a sleeper, described as an “Unknown Model.” It came with a nice Lyman Alaskan in a Stith mount that covered the model number. I’m a...

Model 8 in Goodwin Art

The picture on the home page is an illustration by Philip Goodwin. My Dad collects his prints and has a reference book. I went through it to take snapshots of every Model 8 I could find. I will need to compress most of these.

FN 1900 at Auction

Greetings from a New Guy! There’s a very attractive FN 1900 up for auction near me. I can vouch for the auction house. I won’t be bidding. I’m a shooter, not a collector. https://www.proxibid.com/Art-Antiques-Collectibles/Antiques/FN-1900-35-Rem-108/lotInformation/98409202 I recently acquired a Fran...
