Re: Reloading for 30 Remington.
They are all cast from 50/50 wheel weights and lino. THey go in and out of deer but from the exit hole I must be getting good expansion. In wet pack they are running 50 cal or better.

Local Gun Show
Yesterday i went to a local gun show and took along a Model 8 in 32 Remington that I was thinning out from the herd. As I walked through the show at table after table I heard, "What the He!! is that?" I had ONE dealer who recognised a Model 8. I will admit they were not real popular here i...

Re: Reloading for 30 Remington.
I load mostly cast bullets for all my Remingtons and here are the best 30 loads... Full loads with Lyman 31141 bullet lubed with Carnuba Red Lube W/W 748 28 grains, CCI primer and Remington cases. The same load works well with a LEE 180 gr RN bullet, but is not as good a hunting bullet. IMR 4198 For...

They are sticking to a price that is too high for the condition of the gun imho, I shot them an offer but no deal.

Re: To buy or not to buy, that's the question M8, .32 cal
I bought one here in the US in similar condition for under $400 last month. That is NOT 90% condition in my opinion and although it might be a good using gun it is not a primo collection piece. A lot will depend on what prices are where you live, but if your 750 is anything like out 750 I would give...

Re: Needed, Thompson SMG Butt/Forearm Specs for Model 8 Project
I found a couple butt stocks but no foreend yet. The butt stock is 12 1/2" long and 1 3/4" wide front and rear. The drop at comb is 3/8" and the drop at heel is 2" The stock has a 3/4" hole in the butt 5" deep and the butt plate is 5" top to bottom. The but also ha...

I'll dig mine out and measure it for you or if you prefer I can send a tracing, or if you want I may have a spare.

An interesting Model 8
I picked up a Model 8, 32 Remington in somewhat rough shape cheap recently with the idea that it would be a parts gun. Well gun in hand now i am undecided. The serial number 441xx should put it in about September of 1920, but there are no codes on the barrel jacket. The gun is all matching serial nu...

Another Deer to the Model 8
Just back from deer camp and the Model 8 Remington has done the job again. I dropped a spike buck at about 125 yards with one heart shot. The deer was up hill from me so the bullet took out the heart and went up through the lung on the off side and exited just below the spine. A 1" hole going i...

Re: bullet torque?
The SHOOTER!
Since the barrel is tight in the receiver block which is in turn fairly tight in the breech block at the moment of firing all the torque looks like it would be pretty evenly transmitted to the whole rifle.

Re: Has anyone tried Speer 110 grain JHP's in .30?
I don't think you can get them up taht fast in the Model 8. I have Waters pet loads and he could only get 2500 with the gardiner 115 slugs with 34 grains of IMR 3031. Like a lot of cartridges you run into the pressure curve before you get the velocity. You can push a 150 almost as fast as a lighter ...

Re: Bolt overriding cartridge rim
You need to make sure the magazine spring is in facing the right way, this is the most common cause of overrides. The spring is just backwards of the common Mauser spring in that the tail points to the rear.

Hunting with the Model 8
Deer season opens next week and once again I willl be toting a Model 8. My hunting 8 is a 35 Remington made in 1928. Sometime in the distant past the original owner had installed a NO Shock recoil pad and it is still in pretty good shape. The rifle iitself is all matching and about 85% original fini...

Re: cast handloads for an 81
I have shot a few IMR 4895 loads with 32 grains and a Lyman 200 gr. bullet with no problems. I do get better accuracy with the W/W 748 loads. They seem to work as good on deer as the factory jacketed bullets and will shoot into about 3" at 100 yards.

Re: A Hybrid
300 Savage has an operating pressure of between 46 and 49,000 psi and the 22-250 is over 50,000. Shoot ONLY mild loads in this gun if you value it. As to how it was done it's no trick to turn a duplicate barrel for a M8/81.

Re: A pic and question about my 81
Find a nice piece of walnut and cut the damage area flat. Then glue on the walnut and shape it back to original. If you match the grain and use tinted acraglass you can make this repair almost invisible. I just finished one for a buddy last night.

Re: .300 loads for the 81
Check your magazine spring and make sure it's pointing to the rear, they get switched and then your get the feed problem you have. Check your chamber and make sure it isn't pitted or dirty as 150 factory rounds should fly clear easy. I shoot 170 gr cast with w/w 748 and get good functioning even wit...

Re: What came with a new Model 8
The holes were just for weight reduction, but owners over the years have filled them with what nots. One M 81 I had had a firing pi and stamped in the wood," 1956 to factory for new pin" and the owners name. Another had a canceled elk tag, in a 30!

Your headspace problem is case related rather than rifle related. I had the same problem with one lot of factory ammo that had the shoulder set back too far. You can either pull the bullets and resize the cases or shoot them and take a chance on some streached brass.

I got mine free with the purchase of 4 M8 rifles about 10 years ago. I was shocked to see a copy for SALE at $85 a while back. You have a good price on yours, I'll pass it along.

New guy Old M8 Man
Hello from Nebraska. I just found this forum last night and had to pop in. My collection of M8/81 is down right now but over the years I have had 8 of the grand old guns from 25 to 300 Savage. Currently I am down to one 35 Remington M8 and a 300 Savave M81. I genwealy build muzzleloaders but somehow...
