Walleyeaxl, It looks like you got yourself a fine old Remington for a good price. I love the Model 81 and the 300 Savage is an excellent cartridge. My 81 is a 300 and it shoots quite well. Welcome to the forum. I really like your choice for your first Model 81 and it looks like you have a nice rifle. The 300 Savage is an excellent hunting cartridge. My 81 is also a 300 and it shoots quite well. Good luck with yours.

As a combat rifle, the Garand excels. The Model 8/81 is a better sporting/hunting rifle in my opinion.

I have often listened to Paul Harvey on the radio. He had a real tallent for telling a story with his voice inflections and pregnant pauses. His stories were interesting and often inspiring. He will be missed.
