Re: Stevens lever action in Remington rimless???
I have a 425 in .25 Rem. They are very scarce as they were only made for 5-7 years and something less than 5000 were made. I have a letter from Savage in the 1960s that says they were "needlessly complicated and never popular"; but I like mine. There is a thread on the savage collectors fo...

Re: Loads for .300 Savage and .35 Remington needed
I do not think you will find a plinking load that will reliably cycle any semi-auto rifle. The best you can do is check starting loads in any reloading manual and back off until you fail to get cycling then use the lowest power load that did cycle the action.

Re: Model 8 Value
The model 8 you describe may be a grade 3 or C grade. It depends on what the checkering looks like. I do not have my Henning book handy to tell you the exact characteristics of a C grade but I would expect a checkered stock with pistol grip and cap. As far as price goes 799 is not to far out of line...

Hi Richard, Just back from vacation and picked up a Model 8 at the local gun shop in 35 Rem, so add that to the total.

Re: My Model 81
Ammo can be purchased from a few sources for the 25, 30, and 32 rem. The best prices I have found is Reedsammo.com. The headstamp on the .30 rem will be correct. I am not sure about the .32 rem ammo. The last I checked Reeds was using .30 rem brass to load for .25 rem. This is pretty common as good ...

Re: Introducing myself
Welcome, we have several Canadians in the group here (I am in Kentucky and am not Canadian; but some of my friends are ). I have two 8s and an 81; 25 rem, 30 rem and 35 rem respectively. My 81 shoots the 35 exceptionally well. Off hand 100 yds: http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o239/Tbury/81shot.jp...

Re: Your First Model 81......
My first 81 is in .35 Rem (Oct,1936). I purchased it last year for $695, with and extra mag and the Krieger modification. It has been posted here before and on the Vintage autoloader site. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o239/Tbury/_8111412.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o239/Tbury/Kriege...

Re: To shoot or not to shoot???
81 I know where you are coming from. I definitely would not take a Peerless Grade gun on a deer hunt. I am not sure I would not take it to the range, at least a few times to awe the other shooters. But I have yet to see a standard grade that should be a "Safe Queen". Since most of these gu...

Re: To shoot or not to shoot???
+1 on shoot. I shoot all the guns I own including a Remington .41 RF derringer. Since I handload I tend to use cast bullets in loads enough to cycle the gun but not push it. Autoloaders should not be hotrodded anyway. I would carefully check any new (old) gun before firing and some may spend a lot m...

+1 on 250 savage. I really like the Quarter-bore. I have a 96 Mauser with custom bull barrel in 250 savage that groups over lapping holes at 200 yds.
