Model 8 Pistol Grip Plate

Post by mljackso »

I need to see a photo(s) of a pistol grip plate for a Model 8. Can someone post one or more? I have a plain Model 8 in every regard but one. It has no checkering or engraving, but it DOES have a half pistol grip with a metal cover plate. I am wondering if the plate is original. I need a photo to compare. I am overseas and cannot take one to post. But my plate is oval, has "Remington" along both sides of the oval, has a screw in the center, and I would say elongated oak leaf clusters above and below the screw. Is this a standard Model 8 grip plate? Why would it be present on an otherwise plain-Jane rifle? Thanks. Mike Jackson

Mike,

Here are pictures of member Chad's "F"(6) grade Model 8, a picture of the grip cap can be seen towards the bottom.

The photo you provided is very helpful. Thank you. It looks exactly as my wife described it over the phone. I will send her the photo to compare. It looks it it is indeed an original cap plate. But I do wonder why my plain-Jane rifle having no other "extras" has this cap plate. No checkering. No engraving. I guess the original owner had a thing for pistol grip caps! Here is the photo:
