new guy greetings from Idaho

Post by cheapdad »

I've been lurking for a while....time to join in for real!
I happen to be a proud owner of an 8 in 30 Rem, and 81 in 35 rem. The 8 was presented to my Grandfather on the occasion of his 12th birthday in 1910--they happened to live kitty-corner from the Brownings in Ogden, Ut. He hunted with it, so did my Dad. I got her about 15 years ago, and had her complete restored--a major sin for collectors, but it's not a collector gun, it's a family gun and hopefuly will continue to stay in the family for years to come.
My wife gave me the 81 about 25 years ago--acquired from a collector in the Seattle area. Original, beautiful non-drilled shape.
anyway, I'm on board now!

forgot: the 8 was made in 1910, the 81 in 1940

Ahhhh...That`s better ! Now you ARE fully on board . Two handsome rifles with "history". Looks like a job to be proud of on the Mod 8 and the restorer left the ears on the stock. Thanks again for a great story and now the great photos.

Sir,
Welcome aboard! We love to share our love of these great rifles with others. I agree with sarge on the redo of your family heirloom m-8. It looks good in the pics you posted. Have fun with it and enjoy the memories it gives you of your family members. I have 3 of my my Grandfather's guns and feel very fortunate to have them. He was really the driving force in my enjoyment of the great outdoors, fishing ,hunting, camping, and shooting. He started taking me fishing when i was only 2 years old. I started taking all 3 of my sons fishing when they were 1.5-2 years old too!
Please be aware though, that these guns require more and more roommates. They may become unruly at any time and then you'll have no choice but to acquire more of them. And especially beware of the dreaded Jackitis. It may strike with no warning whatsoever. I've tried to blame others here on this forum for my own situation.( my m-8/81 collection has become pretty big) But there's really nobody here who would actually accept any blame for my own stupid behavior!!
Good luck with them and have some fun.
Thanks for you time,
Roger

Those are a couple of great looking rifles you got there! Pretty neat to have both an 8 and an 81 I think :D Plus the family history to go along with one of them, very nice.

We're glad you finally joined :)
