Here's a short video on the differences unique to the early-type Model 81 F.B.I. issue. Special thanks to Jim (jim8008) for bringing the rifle out!

Re: Model 81 F.B.I. - VIDEO
Hey Cameron,
Thanks so much for the informative video. The one thing I learned, was the lockwasher on the take down screw. I didn't know about that feature. I'm not surprised by this though, because my main area of expertise is the Browning Auto 5 shotguns, and the JMB designed Winchester leverguns. Thanks again to Jim and Cam for this video.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

Thank you for taking time to make the video!
very informative!
I believe one of these passed through the used racks of my local Cabela's several months ago - no barrel sights or screw holes, missing Lyman receiver sight but with bright blue in sight area and with the holes. I wondered why and what-for about the tall front sight.

xtimberman,
Here are a couple of 81's I've tracked that were sold but unknown to the seller they were FBI rifles...
Fall 2009 (Ken Farmer Auctions) - Early Type FBI rifle - SOLD $250
August 2012 (Gunbroker.com) - Early Type FBI rifle - SOLD $299.99
Summer 2010 (I think) my co-worker purchased a nice Model 81 in 30Rem at a Ft. Worth, TX gunshop. He paid in the $400 range for "just a nice 81" with an unusual front sight. Turned out to be the only complete example of a Late Type FBI rifle I've ever seen. I've seen a few Late Type FBI barrel assemblies but no other complete rifles.

The one I mentioned was priced at the Fort Worth Cabela's for ~$600, IIRC.....probably could've been had for $500. It sat there for a month or so and disappeared.
