Operating handle removal

I got another M8 for Christmas and can't get the operating handle out. I've disassembled my other M8 before but can't get this one to slide out.

It's a 1908 rifle. The op handle moves within its dovetail but it seems that I can't pull up the retaing pin far enough for it to slide out. The pin doesn't have the grasping lip that my later M8 has.

Any ideas? Anyone have the same problem?

Here are a couple pics. I can take others if needed. It seems like the retaining pin won't lift enough. I might have to remove the bushing.

Maybe try some needle nosed pliers with a little cardboard to grab the pin and give 'er a tug?

Otherwise, ya, beg/borrow/steal a spanner to disassemble the retention pin/spring.

Yeah, I've tried pliers. I guess I'll have to make a spanner. I'll start soaking it in Kroil. I'm sure it hasn't been taken apart in 110 years!

This is what I found to R/R operating handle bushings. It is an EasyPower # 16 spanner bit. Also comes as a spanner driver (like screw driver). Fits tight in the holes in bushing and has worked very well for me. Lightly clamp op handle in soft jaw vise, tap bit into holes and use 1/4 drive ratchet to remove bushing.
Stubborn bushings that soaking does not free I have used hand held torch to warm just a bit then cool with spray penetrant on bushing. May have to replace spring if too much heat is used....

I just discovered that an FNFAL front sight tool is perfect for removing the bushing.
