Hey guys, new member here from Texas. I recently acquired a model 8 which I believe was produced in 1907. It seems to have a broken firing pin. From looking through the site the model 8 didn’t have a firing pin spring but it looks like one is present on mine. Is there anything special I need to know or look for when replacing the pin?

Hey there. I'm a new member myself. My dad had given me his Model 8 (ca. 1930) and it had a broken firing pin as well. Good pics you posted. Yeah you definitely have a FP spring there. BTW, is your barrel actually marked 30-30 REM?
I'm a very long way from being an expert here. Learned most of what I know about Model 8s from just reading around the web. But I believe the FP springs were a later modification added when the 81 was introduced? So I would guess that someone had taken yours apart at some point in time and added that spring? Someone else might jump in and correct me, which is fine.
The good news is that you can buy a new FP from Numrich's or Midway USA. I just put one in mine. Taking apart and cleaning the rifle (with exception of the barrel components) was a very educational experience. There are a lot of parts, but they can all come out and go back together w/o using any special tools.

Thanks for the reply and info. I ordered a new firing pin and spring so hopefully that’ll get this thing up and running. Yes the barrel is marked 30-30 Remington. From what I’ve read the early .30 guns were marked this way until it caused some confusion with the 30-30 Winchester round. They changed it to just 30 Remington but it’s the same round as far as I know
