Round knob M8s
Round knob M8s
Is there a reason that some round knob 8s have 3 screws and some 2 screws in the lower tang of trigger group. I have a 35 with 3 and a 32 with 2 screws.

Can you post a picture of the 3-screw tang?

Hmmm.... the extra screw is on the butt end of the tang. On straight stocks the stock screw is near the end of the trigger housing tang. On curved Model 8 tangs for round or half-knob stocks, the stock screw is farther up. Yours has screws in both of those positions. Have you had the stock off to see what the screws attach to? I would remove both of the rear screws before trying to tap off the stock, just in case both of them are anchoring the stock to the receiver tang.

As you can see from the pics one screw in the normal place into the upper tang one an additional screw in stock.
Is this unusual?

There are a few out there. Without looking in my collection I think I have 4 or 5 of these rare rifles.

My 25 Rem with round knob has the 3 screw setup. It was made in 1913 "32,xxx".
