Flintlock I made back in 2001
Yes, back when my eyes were good !! LOL ! This is my 4th and final Flintlock that I made and by far my best. The wood was a solid plank of Curly Maple. The barrel is a Swamped Colerain 54 cal with round bottom rifling. The lock is made by Davis.
This was a labor of love. I gathered the parts and started it as soon as the paving season ended just before Christmas and pretty much spent the winter on it. Lots of hours !!!! Many days I would be in the workshop at 4 am then go into the night with breaks of course. It consumed me at the time and what came next was ALWAYS on my mind !
I shot a bunch of deer with it during both the Massachusetts and the Pennsylvania Flintlock seasons ! What a ball we had and boy I am glad I did it while I could because my eyes and knees wouldn't be up for it now LOL !!!!
I hope you enjoy it. John Taylor

Great work and a fine looking flintlock John!
From the looks of the target you had the load and hold for match quality. Your quarry stood little chance.
Pretty cool you did some traveling for out of state hunts. I'd like brainstorm and make that happen for my neighboring states "ohio/new york/jersey
". I'm pretty much smack dab in the middle of Pennsylvania. My rifle opener is tomorrow.

Great work. Shows skill and patience. Would be grateful if my eyes had been that good ever and my hold that steady in offhand.
Good shooting, Joe

Re: Flintlock I made back in 2001
From about 1996 through 2013 I shot a winter and sometimes summer muzzle loader league and we shot every other Sunday plus me and a few others shot at least once or twice a week on our own. I was putting the time in ! We also spent a lot of time on tuning the locks to make them fast !! That makes a lot of difference. That target was my best 50 yard target and believe me they weren't all like that
They were great years of shooting while I was on my game but now I need a scope !!!!

Very good craftsmanship on the rifle build. You did well, very well.
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

You did an incredibly good job on your long rifle. I hope you never lose pride in your craftsmanship.
