It's not too often one sells this cheap. It's even more uncommon for a high grade to have went under the knife "drilled and tapped" this much! A lot can happen to a rifle in 115 years. I can appreciate them drill and tapping the early shroud for the sling point and not using the forearm.hah

There's definitely 2 repair codes on the shroud, one of them was 1948. I believe* that the caliber change happened at Remington.

Boy what a shame someone did all that to that beautiful rifle !! Peep sight and scope mounts LOL ! Couldn't make up there mind. Still a neat old gun that's probably put down a few animals. Thanks for posting.

I imagine the rifle had it's share of hunting!
