Hello all,

Just picked up my first Remington autoloader - a 1949-dated '81 Woodsmaster in .300 Savage.



I had been looking around for them locally but they're quite hard to find as they didn't sell them up here in Canada - as far as I know only the FN 1900s made it up here. Hard to find in .35 Rem and .300 Sav, anyway - I was coming across quite a few in .30 Rem or .32 but I didn't want to fool around with obsolete calibers wherein brass doesn't exist.

Anyway, this one is a little bit of a project, so I'll be asking lots of little annoying questions. Look forward to it!

Looks like you got a pretty nice one! 300 savage is as hard hitting of a cartridge that they put in the autoloaders.

I'm in Southern Ontario, same as probably half the rest of the population here

I'm going to take my '81 apart a bit and figure out exactly what needs doing before I start new threads. I picked this one up half as a stock-making project, since I had a 2-piece set of Circassian walnut lying around and didn't want to buy another shotgun. Might be fun to make my own pseudo B-grade 81. There isn't really anything wrong with the stocks that are on it now, they're just a bit beat up and the buttstock has a chip out of the tang area on the one side. To be expected of a 75+ year old hunting rifle that has clearly been loved and used.
