Action Spring (Bolt return)

Post by ottergt »

Hello! Anyone know where I can find said spring for my Model 81 .300 Savage? Just took it apart and found mine is broken. I checked Numrich, Classic Firearms and parts, Gunbroker, and eBay...no luck. Thanks!!!

You're welcome.

It was broken, strange. Was it a break due to corrosion?

I’ll take a closer look, but I don’t think so, didn’t notice any obvious corrosion anywhere. The rifle in general was very clean, and very little gunk in the spring tube. It was broken in the area that the wooden plug resides. It was odd.

Thanks Ottergt.

Don't worry about further inspection. My curiosity was peaked how it could have broken.

At this time I have no theory other than the metallurgy wasn't up to snuff, likely just a fluke "stuff happens." Far from a common issue, don't know if I've heard one breaking before.

Anyway hope the replacement parts arrive soon. You trying to hunt with it?

Yes, the “bad metallurgy” was my thought too. Not planning to hunt with it this year…it’s been too long since I’ve been out in the deer woods. Hopefully I get out next year. Just curious…was that your listing?

Well best of luck when you do get back out hunting.

Not my listing. When posting auctions, I try to remember saying "no affiliation with seller, buyer use your discretion."

Never know what the next malfunction could/will be. I keep some things on hand, I came into collecting these a little late for cheaper parts. I'm a parts hoarder, not a seller. haha :D
