Model 11 and Model 8 Parts Interchange...Action Spring Tube

Gents,

Does anyone know if the Model 8 and 11 use the same action spring tube? An action spring tube is the only part I'm missing to make my drawer of spare parts a complete rifle, LOL. Model 8 tubes are hard to find compared to Model 11 tubes. They look the same and I suspect they are.

Hi there, I did speak to a guy on eBay who is making recoil springs for the Model 8 and 81's. He said he was in the works on making the bolt action springs as well, but they are not ready yet. You could message him and see what he has to say.

The above listed ebay seller confirmed that the Model 8 and 11 use the same action spring tube. Thanks for the lead! My parts drawer Frankenstein will live again.

care is called for with the tubes, some are brazed in place. Many will unscrew OK but the brazed ones are problematic. The heat will damage the receiver.

I got my Model 11 spring tube. They are NOT the same. The OD is too large. The threads look the same but I don't want to remove one from my other rifle to measure. I'm going to try to turn it down. I'll report back. Definitely not a drop in replacement.

Perhaps measuring inside & outside diameters so you can search internet for an appropriate size tube stock, that would solve your issue.

I turned it down and it works now. So it looks like, with an example of one, a Model 11 spring tube is functional. Of course this may have only been tolerance stacking.

If I am following this correctly, I wonder if all calibers/ gauges are the same tube size or if the ID/OD are different? Sounds like this is possible or not. Interesting.
