New and excited about my 1909, 30 Remington

Post by markanthony »

Just got the Rifle from an older friend who hunted in the Michigan area. A friend of his, who passed away gave him this rifle some years ago. It was offered to me, not knowing anything about this old unique rifle. I've shot about 30 rounds so far with better than average results. This is a very fine rifle dated to about 1909 according to the serial number. The wood and metal are forest worn, but still in better than average shape. I am looking for the peep site for this rifle to make it more complete. I have just gotten the 30 Rem dies and brass, so I am sure I'll have more to say about this as I experience some bench rest shooting with it.

Welcome. Exciting indeed. What would be your serial number, if you don't mind sharing some of it .... Also, lusting for some pictures - in addition to you relating your experiences - of course.

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like a fine rifle, bet it's seen a few hunts in those Michigan woods.

The serial number is 15XXX, and according to this site, that places it around 1909. If I read it right.

Hey Mark,

Welcome to the forum. I have some of those Michigan rifles and if only they could talk what stories they would tell. I am glad you like shooting the rifle and it will serve you well. Let us know what type of sight you are looking for and I am sure you will get some good leads to find one.

Regards,

It will likely be hard to find the origonal peeps for this model very soon, but if someone has applied a modern peep sight, that would be worth knowing.

Hey Mark,

You can find vintage peep sights but sometimes they are pricey. There are a couple of tang sights on Gun Broker at present. You can also find them on EBay from time to them. Just tell us what type you are looking for and someone will tell you where to look.

Good Luck,
