Is it or isn't it ???? ...

Post by rem81auto »

I bought this 81 300 Sav. >> w/Kreiger conversion last Sunday. The rifle is >> NOT << stamped 81B. I am seeking opinions on whether or not the checkering looks factory done .... it does have #3 stamp factory return that I guess ??? a case could be made that the checkering was done than. I only paid $250.00 so I am happy with it to hunt with whether it's right or wrong. Tks For looking. Dennis

my guess, pretty checkering but NOT factory. Here's an example of B grade checkering and the pattern consistent with most all others I've seen. I need to put together a factory checkering page for reference.

BTW, nice Krieger at a very nice price WOW!

Hi Dennis,

That is a nice looking rifle! I have a couple with very similar checkering and am of the belief they are not factory but still a good job. When you have a factory checkered layed side by side you can see the subtle differences. You got a heck of a buy and to have a Krieger at that price is a steal!

The Creamer clan has chimed in via email and Bob's opinion is while not a true 81B there is a good possibility that the checkering on my rifle is factory. I suppose we will never know for sure. I want to thank everyone for there thoughts. Dennis

Just 'cause I'm such a nice guy  , since this rifle has a "cloud" over it, I'd be willing to give it a nice home to help you out. I'd even give you 300 for it just to make ya feel good about it!! I'm just say'n....
