reloading 25 remington
i have been trying to shoot my 25 remington model 8.having several problems with it.i thought i would get the ammo right first before i disassemble it.i am using 18 grains of h-4198 with a 117 grain round nose.the rifle is not extracting the spent caseing and the primers are protruding.any help would be appreciated.

Re: reloading 25 remington
H4198 may be too fast. You may be seeing signs of excessive pressure.

Re: reloading 25 remington
I've had good success w/ 26.5 gr. of Win.760 and Hornady 117 gr. RN. They shoot well w/ both of my 25 Cal. M-8

Re: reloading 25 remington
I agree 4198 is a little to fast burning and the primers protruding is a sign of over pressure i u 4064 in my 32 model 8 a 32 grains and 170 grain bullet i know a guy that loads for his 25 and loads with 22 to 25 grains of 4064 with a 117 grain hornaday bullet and it shoots and functions great i would recommend to start with the lighter load and increase based on results over pressurization can cause alot of damage to these old guns
Re: reloading 25 remington
I agree that it is pressure signs and to fast of a powder for the heavy bullet. I had good luck working up loads for the 110gr Hornady Interlocks with H4895. Ken Waters liked Norma powders in his Pet Loads article on the .25 in the Model 8 with the old IMR standbys of 3031, 4895, and 4064 being unacceptable to average accuracy with the round nose, but it is old data.
Re: reloading 25 remington
It seems that quite a few of my older m-8 s like slower burning powders. I've noticed a real corrulation between good acuracy and slower burning powderslike win.760. It works equally well in my 2- 25/35 m-1894 Winchester, with almost identical formulas as my 25 Rem. Formula. I would really suggest trying win.760.
