Happy New Year to everyone...
Just a quick update to everyone who gave me information on the model 8 converted to .300 savage. I too everyones advise and took the gun to a qualified gun smith (Dick Williams Gun Shop Saginaw Michigan) to have it checked out and what a BUST that turned out to be. The chamber was blown out. There was virtually no shoulder on the case it was rounded off. The chamber was extremly rough and the fired case was wouldn't eject. I appears to me that the job wasn't someone converting the gun to the more powerful .300 cartridge, but someone slapping in a new barrel becuse the original one was bad.
I don't know what would cause the chamber to blow out or the chamber to be rough like that, but it someone has some ideas it might be fun to kick it around. On a positive note I called the dealer explained the problems with the gun and he gladly agreed to a refund. I sent the gun back along with the spent case and the info from my gun smith.
Again, thanks to everyone for the information. This site truly is a great source of information for the remington 8/81 collector
