After some online searching I found that Weaver makes a side scope mount that will apparently fit Model 8 and 81s.

Questions:

Have any of you tried them?

Do they bolt up to existing receiver screws or do you have to have the receiver drilled and tapped?

yes, the current Weaver #7 (48407) requires the drilling and tapping of the receiver. 6 holes I believe.
