Problem Solved!

Post by Wildgoose »

Posted awhile back that I needed some input to solve a failure to feed problem with my 300 Savage M81. Well its functioning 100% now. Figured out that the magazine spring was installed backwards. Hard to believe that this would cause so much trouble but it indeed did. Problems feeding and failure to lock open on an empty chamber. Seems the action uses the pressure from the floor plate to assist the bolt carrier catch to pop up into position when the chamber is empty and the floor plate comes into contact with it. The spring being reversed also puts pressure on the wrong area of the floor plate when pushing the cartridge up causing the bullet end to pop up too soon, lowering the rim and allowing the bolt to override it and jam with the rim under it and forced back into the magazine. Went to the range today and she ran like a fine old clock. :D
