Factory Checkering?

Since we're coming out with a page on the various grades of the 8 and 81, here's an interesting rifle.

It's an early 4 digit Model 81 (mfg. 1939) with what might appear to be factory checkering. The wood has no interior markings but was advertised as a deluxe Model 81. Look carefully at the grip checkering pattern...look familiar? The pattern is a copy of a mid-late 1950's Remington Model 740. Still a cool rifle though!

Howdy,

This is what happens when you buy without first confirming with the experts. I bought this rifle because I wanted to think it was a "Deluxe" and after all it was checkered and it sure was pretty. I knew it was different from the other checkering patterns I had seen, but I wanted to believe it was a "Deluxe". :? I do not have second thoughts about the purchase because it is a nice rifle, it is different and it is still a Remington. :D

Cam, you did a good job of posting the pictures. I am waiting to see the rest of your work on the subject of checkering. I appreciate your efforts in bringing new data to the forum. :D
