A couple Rem. Mod. 8 questions

A recent acquisition being a very nice Mod. 8 in 35 has me scratching my head.
Nowhere on the rifle does it say " Mod. 8 ".... is that normal ?
The only marks are the patent dates on top of the barrel, the caliber also on top and the serial # on the bottom.
Coming from the estate of a very old chap the gun hadn't been fired for decades, so I cleaned it up and tried some old Dominion ammo from my stash.
Amazingly at 75 yds., three rounds were very nearly touching, so my next question ..... does anyone have a nice grouping / shooting handload for this old guy ?
I don't want to make any gun-wrecker loads, just something using a 200 gr. RN to use around my cabin.
Any help or suggestions will be most appreciated.

First, let me welcome you to the forum.Second,Don`t let that Model 8 get out of your hands. If you are getting that kind of group at 75 yards you have a keeper. I`m not familiar with the ammo you described but of course the thing to do would be to duplicate it in a hand load if you could. My favorite load for the 35 with a 200gr roundnose is 36g of 4895 or 37g of 3031.This load will deliver about 2000 fps and is between a max load and the suggested in my old Lyman book. Another powder option is 30g of 4198 for about 1900fps. These are not the max loads but should be worked up from a reduced load with attention to extraction problems etc. Since you have already been spoiled with the group you described you have some work to do to duplicate it.Let us know how you do and we would love to see pictures of your nice Model 8. Also,Yes it is normal for a Model 8 not to be stamped Model 8 cause it isn`t.
Again, Welcome and look forward to seeing you here.

Thanks Joe, greatly appreciate your reply.
Regarding the ammo three boxes of old 35 came with the rifle, one box of old Western, one of Remington and also a box of Dominion which is a Canadian made ammunition also known as CIL or Canadian Industries Limited no longer in business.
I happened to have some newer stuff probably late '60s vintage which I tried.
The old gun has I think a Lyman peep sight that sits on the side of the receiver and elevates by a thumb latch, probably as old as the gun.
I'll take some pictures and try to figure out how to post them.... my 65 yr. old brain isn't exactly computer compatible.
Again, Thanks much for the help.

Welcome to the forum. With a bit of reading you will probably soon learn that your grouping is a little better then 1/2 of what most of us get!! Wanna sell it, eh?
Posting pictures on here can be a challenge, do-able via several steps, which seemingly duplicate each other, but it works. Some of the guys are having someone else post their pictures, I'm often that someone and don’t mind doing it. If it doesn't work for you, and your pictures are already on your confuser, PM me your email addy and if you can get them to me I'll do what I can to get them posted.

Thanks for the offer regarding posting pictures, I will try to take some soon.
As for the good group shot with the rifle I'll guarantee it was more luck than skill on my part !
