December 7, 1941 "A Day That Will Go Down In Infamy" Quote from President Franklin D. Roosevelts address to Congress and the Nation following Japans sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. Seventy years have passed since that day of Infamy in which over 400,000 United States Army, Navy, Marines, Air Corp, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and US Civilians died due to hostile action by Japan, Germany, Italy and others.
Remembrance seems to be largely forgotten by succeding generations but we survivors of the 16,000,000 who served along with countless other citizens who supported, sacrificed and suffered will never cease Remembering Pearl Harbor. Jerry King, US Army Air Corps, 1943-1946

My Father-in law passed away last year.Only when we looked into what benefits were available through VA did we learn of his service. Many awards and medals. He was part of that "Greatest Generation" and didn`t talk about what happened over there. So many islands in the Pacific where he endured and kept secret the untold stories that went with him to his grave. In all the years that we visited and talked he only spoke of the "War"once. He made it through a few sentences then became too choked up to continue.A humble man that through the accomplishments of his life I believe carried out that line in "Saving Private Ryan" to make it "worth it".
This Saturday at noon we will have the laying of the wreaths at the National Cemetery here in Jacksonville. My brother Lt.Col Ret. rests there.Three tours in Viet-Nam and likewise decorated he was also one that never spoke of that ill fated war.Where do we find such men and what do we do to deserve them?

Thank God, we find them all over the US of A!! But indeed one has to look hard, as you have noted, they are the quiet ones and quietly passing away rapidly.
