Hi Guys,
I'm a brand new member of your forum because I'm a brand new owner of a Remington Model 8. What I have found out is, apparently its a very early one. The Serial number on both the receiver and barrel is 49**. Might this be a first year production? Its a .35 Rem and is pretty good shape. It has the regular rear sight on the barrel, but also has a screw for mounting the Marble tang sight (alas, no sight). The guy I got it from has been hunting with it, so apparently it still works OK. Just thought I'd find out what I can about it. Thanks.
Early Model 8?
Re: Early Model 8?
Sandspur6,
Welcome to the forums and congrats on a fine rifle.
Serial number 49XX would be 2nd year of production. Photographs of the rifle would help us to tell you more about it.
Hope you enjoy your old "springpole"

Re: Early Model 8?
I just got a Model 8, same year and calibre. Your rifle is a treasure. Mine has no barrel sight, but is set up for a receiver sight and has a Redfield peep on it. I found some of those custom receiver peeps (model 8-81, different than mine) for sale or on obsolete auctions, so they exist.
