1908 model for sale

Post by s ruppa »

i have a .35 cal 1908 model 8 for sale. i dont know how to grade guns but i have included as many photos as i could. i was not able to get picture down the barrel but all the grooves are intact all look to be the same amount of wear. it appears there is no spring in the magazine.

i had to size down the resolution of the picture so it could be posted. i would be happy to e-mail higher resolution images to anyone interested

asking 325.00 plus shipping. pick up is welcome

thanks
steve

Hey s ruppa,

I think you will find most of us reluctant to set a price on another man's rifle. If you are comfortable with your asking price that is all that is important. If someone wants your rifle, they will come up with your asking price, PROVIDING that you have fully disclosed any issues with the rifle. I am sure most will agree with me in saying that your asking price of $325.00 seems very reasonable, IF...... You state "in this condition" and what that may be interpreted to mean is that it is not pristine nor is it completely deteriorated. Pictures tell only a part of the description. The rifle does appear to have some issues. Some of the things that I notice is the cracks in the forearm, the butt plate appears to have the bottom broken off. I may be wrong but the butt plate does not look like an original but rather an after market. The bluing is rather thin on the receiver but does not appear to have any rusting or pitting. You have acknoledged there is no magazine spring and that is a big issue. The springs are hard to find and without one the rifle is basically a single shot. I have seen rifles like you are presenting go for less and many higher.

This is one man's opinion and I am sure there are others who may have a different viewpoint. I hope this helps answer your question.

that is great info / opinion. i am not too familiar with this type of gun. all the things you said are accurate. the crack looks worse than it is, but a crack all the same. the butt plate does have a missing corner, there is no spring in the mag. i was not sure how hard those were to find. the bluing is almost gone, but not rusted or pitted.

i thought there may have been some interest on this forum.....so i thought i would ask opinions.

after all that being said, perhaps the asking price is a little high. i agree, that in my brief time researching this rifle i have seen similar ones go for more and go for less.

thanks for your input

Between what you have written, the pictures and Jacks observation - I believe you have done a fine job of representing an old shooter - now those in the market will help you determine a fair price.

As you have likely noticed, times are tough and there are some good buys out there right now, or... it's not a real good time to be selling. That said, these are collectables and collectable market doesn't usually fluctuate very much.

Best of luck with it.

You should be able to get that price easy on an auction site maybe more. Charge $30.00 shipping and you will be able to ship to buyers ffl via UPS directly. This will appeal both to model 8 wannabe collectors who don't have one that old and also 35 Rem fans! Most guys on this site have several already and in tough times don't need another. Very fair price in spite of small cracks etc.
