New 81 owner

Post by Sub shooter »

I was just up in Reno and was looking at the rifle rack at Cabellas and saw an 81. I didn't really know what it was, but was intrigued. When I got home I got my copy of Shooting Times in the mail and there was a Model 8. After reading the article I picked up the phone and called Cabellas. It should be in my hot little hands in a couple weeks. Cabellas said that it was fine to shoot. It's a .300 Savage. Anything I should do or know before I try it out? Any recommendations on ammo selection?

Welcome to the 8/81 sickness - enjoy.

The weekend Reno Cabelas opened, I bought a 35Rem M8 at the The Big Reno Gun Show. (On Thursday before the show opened Cabelas bought a lot of guns at the show, thus they had a very nice opening weekend stock.) The wife and I enjoy both the show and our first Cabelas.

There has been a lot of discussion on here regarding 300Sav lately, do a search you should find a lot of help, here are a couple to get you started:

Hey Sub shooter,

Welcome to good ole boys Remington fanciers. Glad to have a new guy that is sure to get hooked on these rifles and will have to have another.
