Question on slip-on or laced recoil pads

Post by gcp »

Gents, what size is the 81's buttstock (small, medium, or large)?

My 81 measures 5" length by 1 5/8" width for the buttplate. That would be close to a Medium if you are looking at the "Galco" leather slip on pad. The medium in that pad is 5" by 1 1/2" . The large is a little longer with a 1 5/8 width. IMO the best fit would be the medium. With the proper length it won`t shift around. Since it is leather it will stretch a bit to accomodate an eighth of an inch width. I use this pad on a couple double guns and find it to be top quality and well worth the price. You can go here to take a look at what is offered by them.

I use a medium Limbsaver slip-on - works just fine.

I finally made it back to the farm today from the north east and after quite a bit of bush hogging and other such work that was neglected while I was on travel for 6 weeks I had to try out my 81…..the priorities of life! Well, after tightening the barrel nut and concentrating on the targets it became obvious that this rifle at 100 yards will do just fine, if I do my part. By no means is it a sniper but neither are my old eyes so, I think for deer hunting in the bush it'll do just fine!

Again 100 yards but more deliberate. This is a decent group but the rifle obviously shoots a bit low and to the left so next task is to see if I can tighten it up a bit with my own reloads.

BTW, the slip-on recoil pad I used on the buttstock worked like a charm, absolutely no recoil issues with it, night and day difference.

Bottom line? I am still glad I bought it.
