This rifle appears to have no Remington roll marking above the. Model 8 and the serial # on the left side of the receiver. Anyone else here got an explanation for this? The blueing looks original to me except for a couple of the pics. They aren't very clear,so it's hard to see for sure. Any opinions?

Great observations there Roger. The changes in markings were certainly transitional. The auctioned rifle's tang stamped trademark is consistent with rifles from the early 1920's. The picture below shows the markings (or lack of) on earlier rifles, and below that another version of markings less frequently seen where the serial number is still located on the bottom of the receiver.

Does anyone here know what the two drilled holes in the buttplate were for? I've seen alot of holes in guns that didn't belong there, but not any like this.

I thought that odd also - no clue as to their purpose.

While looking at gunbroker this am, I saw this listing#314507845. This rifle also has no remington roll. Stamping above the model8-- serial # markings.It also has the whelen fluted combed stock ,along with the top tang rifle buttplate.Both of these features have been discussed here on this forum and appear to me to be relatively rare. I just thought it to be interesting since this m-8 has 3 unusual features.
