Remington 81 rear sight

Hello to the Society.
I am new here and have a question for you all. I have just acquired an excellent condition Rem. 81 in .35 Rem [ser# 17+++] from a long time family friend. He used to stay with us during deer season back in the 60's. One year he showed up with a RIFLE! Since we mostly hunted in a shotgun only county, no one else had one. Being 9-10 years old and never having seen any rifle before, I was glued to the corner behind the door where the guns were leaning at the end of the day. After 40 some years I now own it.
I had to shoot it when I received it in Oct. but to my great disappointment, the old sights are blurry! Must be because of their advancing age.
I now have a Marbles model 6 peep on it.
The question is, can I was to remove the rear sight to give me more visibility thru the peep? I was wondering if the rear sight screws just thread into the barrel jacket, or if there was something like a nut or backing plate inside that will fall off inside and gum up the works?
Thanks for the help.
I am really enjoying going thru the website.
