safety detent thoughts

I am in the process of reblueing, and I just got to sanding the side with the safety detent. I do believe that I will have to take the detent out to reblue but am not sure, figured I see what opinions are out there on this. Is loctite still the best way to put it back in?

I made a tool to safely remove the detent. On the inside of the receiver is a very small pin hole which you can drive the detent out by. Be careful though, you can imagine how easy that little piece is to lose! Basically I have a makeshift tiny angled punch that I tap to drive the detent out into a plastic tray I lay the rifle over. I'm sure after bluing and reinstalling a very tiny amount of loctite would suffice. Good luck!

Your idea of using a Tray is great, I think I'm going to steal it and use a Magnetic tray for that extra bit of security not to loose it. Does anyone know how they kept them in during manufacture

Pardon my ignorance Mitch, I should have known better!

It's pretty simple really, very makeshift. I took a needle with green ball at the end. I broke the tip off the needle so that it's short enough to fit inside the receiver. The green ball part is crucial because I use pliers or vise grips to grab it and insert it inside the receiver. I line up the detent hole with the broken end of the needle, insert it, then gently tap a hammer against the pliers/vise grips. This downward force will pop the detent right out and not damage it nor the receiver. Works like a charm ;) Pictures to kinda show you what I mean.

I'm at the point of white vinegar and pre-blue prep myself.

Not sure if I plan on doing anything at all with the detent, once I get to the prep stage for real I will see.

Anyone else like Birchwood Casey Super Blue? I do. Works for me!
