About 4 or 5 years back..I was at a yard sale..of a neighbor, he had died..and they were selling everything from his garage and shops.. I near fainted... There was a wood crate...FULL of the .30 REMINGTON in the WHITE boxes..in FULL METAL JACKETED loads..
There was also a CRATE of 2 ham cans of WW2 30.06 in the M1 GARAND CLIPS...
The AMMO in .30 REM - came from the CANJON CITY Prison...here in COLORADO.. The man had been a GUARD there many - many years back.. The family told me he had a Remington - with PRISON markings years back - but had sold it.... :-(
Would have been a dream come true..
I finally located a VERY nice Model 8 - in .30 REM...but...some yoyo has put one of those dumb rubber pads on the stock.. I NEED A STOCK !!! The tang sight will have to go also...Do not like them... Anyway...thought you all would like to hear about the .30 REMINGTON .. Tough to find original ammo now in the WHITE BOXES -- FMJ ...especially in the original wood crate !!!
SEND HEAT...Cold here !!!

What's one of the tang sights worth?

Depends on the model and its condition. They bring pretty good money but some models go for more than others. Top price is if it comes with mounting screw and does not require any mods to the gun to mount.

I've purchased more than a few tang peep sights over the years. I've found that the ones for Winchester levers are definitely more expensive than the ones for remington m-8/81 s. I've paid as little as 80.00 for one in excellent condition. And I've paid 140.00 for two different ones that were new. The one that's a Lyman was in the original box.
The other new one is a Marbles. I see them listed for more than that sometimes. I wouldn't want to pay more than 150.00 myself, but then I own 25 or 30 tang peeps. You may want one worse than I do now.
Hope this helps answer your questions at least in part.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

The white box .30 Rem FMJ ammunition that I have seen is (relatively) late production. It will have R-P headstamps, and the lot codes indicate early-mid 1960s production. I think it was made principally for law enforcement and prison guard use. Back in those pre-Vietnam days, the Remington semi-auto rifles were often used for such purposes. I still see some of that ammo at gun shows, usually about $30-35/box.
