cracked barrel shroud

Hello -I have noticed that the barrel shroud is cracked on the bottom along the flange that screws into the receiver. It had apparently cracked once before and was rather crudely welded but that has given way (talking decades ago). An amateur gunsmith nearby says it can be hard soldered versus welded. Anyone else experience this and offer any tips/advice on repair? thx inadvance

JohnP,

The right way to fix it is to replace the entire barrel shroud. There are a couple on gunbroker.com right now.

Cam is right the best fix is to replace the shroud. there is a lot of internal force with the heavy springs inside the shroud. If soldering is the way you choose to go, find an experienced gunsmith that is well versed in brazing and soldering.
