hey guys names luke just acquired my great uncles old model 81 original owner from 1949 shot one deer and maybe had 100 rounds put through it in 50 years. Im trying to disassemble it and have been good thus far until the little pin that holds the trigger/magazine group together. I can not hit that pin out for the life of me.... any hints would be Awesome... Oh and its a .300 savage. Thanks guys

Hey luke,

Welcome to the forum. I am glad to hear that you have a 81 that was in the family. That makes it special.

The trigger assembly pin is normally easy to drive out. You should be driving it from the right side to the left. A good brass punch will prevent less damage than a steel punch. A good center on the pin and a firm hit should do the trick. There is a screw on the left side of the receiver that hold the trigger assembly in place. I always leave that screw in place until I drive the pin out. I have found that often times there is tension on the trigger assemble and that may make driving the pin out a little more difficult. I good penetrating oil may assist in pin removal if it were rusty or corroded.

Keep us posted and if you can share a picture, we will appreciate seeing the rifle.

Regards,
